Inversion
Avionics Embedded Software Engineer II
About this role
Inversion seeks an Embedded Software Engineer II to develop flight-critical software for hypersonic reentry vehicles. You'll own the full software lifecycle from low-level hardware interfaces to real-time vehicle control, working across processors, FPGAs, and distributed networking architectures in an aerospace environment.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded flight software in C/C++ for avionics systems, payload interfaces, and vehicle control operating in mission-critical aerospace conditions
- Develop Board Support Packages, hardware abstraction layers, bootloaders, and device drivers for custom avionics hardware platforms
- Perform board bring-up, hardware enablement, and integration testing on new processor and FPGA-based platforms
- Design vehicle communication architectures using DDS, CoAP, and modern networking to enable telemetry, commands, and sensor data exchange across distributed systems
- Execute unit, integration, and Hardware-in-the-Loop verification campaigns; debug hardware-software interactions using instrumentation and protocol analysis tools
- Collaborate with electrical, systems, GNC, and integration teams through design reviews, code reviews, and flight readiness activities
What they're looking for
- Embedded C and C++ for real-time systems
- Board Support Packages and bootloader development
- FPGA and processor bring-up and enablement
- Real-time operating systems and hardware abstraction layers
- DDS, CoAP, and distributed vehicle networking protocols
- Hardware debugging tools: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers
- Hardware-in-the-Loop and verification testing
- Aerospace or mission-critical systems experience
