Lightmatter
Electro-Optic Link Hardware Engineer
About this role
Lead verification and characterization of high-speed electro-optic links for Lightmatter's photonics data center infrastructure. You'll own link-budget methodology, conduct hands-on lab debugging of novel failure modes, build electrical/optical channel models, and mentor senior engineers while staying deeply involved in bench measurements.
What you'll do
- Perform hands-on lab characterization and debug of high-speed electrical/optical hardware and novel failure modes
- Build and correlate system-level electrical/optical/EO channel models against bench measurements
- Own link-budget and verification methodology with direct involvement in validation measurements
- Characterize eye diagrams, BER, jitter, equalization, and channel impairments
- Support silicon bring-up and root-cause debug across analog, package, PCB, and SerDes teams
- Mentor senior/staff engineers while maintaining hands-on lab involvement
What they're looking for
- High-speed serial links (56G/112G/224G+) and SerDes equalization (CTLE/FFE/DFE)
- Signal integrity analysis (S-parameters, crosstalk, link budgets)
- Silicon photonics and electro-optic systems
- Lab instrumentation (VNA, oscilloscopes, BERTs, TDRs)
- Simulation and design tools (ADS, HFSS, Cadence, COMSOL)
- Python/MATLAB for automation and modeling frameworks
- Package/PCB/channel co-design
- COM/IBIS-AMI modeling
Benefits
- Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
- Retirement savings matching program
- Paid family leave and disability coverage
- Generous time off including vacation and paid holidays
- Equity grants for full-time employees
- Flexible hybrid workplace model
