Lightmatter

Electro-Optic Link Hardware Engineer

Mountain View, CAFrom $250kfull-timemidAdded today

About this role

Lead verification and characterization of high-speed electro-optic links for Lightmatter's photonics data center infrastructure. You'll own link-budget methodology, conduct hands-on lab debugging of novel failure modes, build electrical/optical channel models, and mentor senior engineers while staying deeply involved in bench measurements.

What you'll do

  • Perform hands-on lab characterization and debug of high-speed electrical/optical hardware and novel failure modes
  • Build and correlate system-level electrical/optical/EO channel models against bench measurements
  • Own link-budget and verification methodology with direct involvement in validation measurements
  • Characterize eye diagrams, BER, jitter, equalization, and channel impairments
  • Support silicon bring-up and root-cause debug across analog, package, PCB, and SerDes teams
  • Mentor senior/staff engineers while maintaining hands-on lab involvement

What they're looking for

  • High-speed serial links (56G/112G/224G+) and SerDes equalization (CTLE/FFE/DFE)
  • Signal integrity analysis (S-parameters, crosstalk, link budgets)
  • Silicon photonics and electro-optic systems
  • Lab instrumentation (VNA, oscilloscopes, BERTs, TDRs)
  • Simulation and design tools (ADS, HFSS, Cadence, COMSOL)
  • Python/MATLAB for automation and modeling frameworks
  • Package/PCB/channel co-design
  • COM/IBIS-AMI modeling

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
  • Retirement savings matching program
  • Paid family leave and disability coverage
  • Generous time off including vacation and paid holidays
  • Equity grants for full-time employees
  • Flexible hybrid workplace model

Likely interview questions

  • Describe a complex signal integrity or link-performance problem you debugged at the bench—what was novel about it and how did you isolate root cause?
  • Walk us through your approach to building and validating a system-level channel model for a multi-gigabit serial link.
