About this role

OpenAI seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to develop next-generation robotic systems, owning hardware design from concept through deployment. You'll work across the full electronics lifecycle—circuit design, PCB layout, integration, and validation—while collaborating with cross-functional teams to build compact, AI-driven robotic platforms.

What you'll do

  • Own electrical architecture for robotic systems including sensing, power distribution, communication, and actuator interfaces
  • Design and implement compact electronics from circuit design through PCB layout, bring-up, and validation
  • Build and validate hardware in integrated robotic systems, debugging issues from observation to resolution
  • Partner with mechanical, firmware, software, and controls teams to deliver cohesive system solutions
  • Make engineering tradeoffs across performance, size, power, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Drive hardware development from loosely-defined concepts into working systems with limited guidance
