About this role
OpenAI seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to lead end-to-end AI deployments in healthcare organizations, owning technical discovery through production launch. You'll design and implement production AI systems that integrate with healthcare infrastructure while ensuring HIPAA compliance, regulatory standards, and measurable workflow impact.
What you'll do
- Own complete technical lifecycle from customer discovery and architecture to deployment, evaluation, and handoff
- Partner with customer engineers and domain experts to translate healthcare workflows into technical requirements and measurable outcomes
- Design and implement production AI applications integrated with EHR systems, enterprise APIs, claims platforms, and operational tools
- Build safeguards for PHI, HIPAA compliance, privacy, security, and auditability in regulated environments
- Define and operationalize evaluations, validation workflows, and launch criteria against customer-specific acceptance thresholds
- Translate deployment learnings into reference architectures, integration patterns, and reusable healthcare-focused technical primitives

- Software engineering and ML/AI systems design (6+ years)
- Healthcare domain expertise: EHR systems, HL7, FHIR, Epic, claims workflows
- Technical architecture and hands-on implementation for enterprise customers
- HIPAA, compliance, and regulated-environment governance
- Production AI evaluation and error analysis
- Agentic systems and complex system integration
- Technical communication with non-technical stakeholders
- Healthcare provider, payer, or health-tech experience
