About this role

Join OpenAI's API Infrastructure team to design and ship enterprise-grade backend systems for authentication, identity management, compliance, and operational controls that enable developers and enterprises to safely adopt the OpenAI API at scale.

What you'll do

  • Own end-to-end backend capabilities for authentication, service accounts, key management, secure networking, compliance, and observability
  • Partner with Product, security, infrastructure, and go-to-market teams to identify requirements and drive large cross-functional initiatives
  • Design developer-facing APIs, system behavior, error handling, and audit trails with meticulous attention to user experience
  • Build and operate highly reliable distributed systems spanning databases, streaming infrastructure, request routing, and microservices
  • Lead projects from ambiguous customer needs through design, launch, and iteration with direct user engagement
  • Drive decisions on reliability standards, operational excellence, and system simplicity
