SpaceX
Electrical Design Engineer (Falcon & Dragon Avionics)
About this role
SpaceX is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to develop and optimize avionics hardware for Falcon and Dragon spacecraft. You'll own the complete lifecycle of flight-critical electronic systems, from design through production, with responsibility for reliability, manufacturability, and crew safety.
What you'll do
- Design and redesign PCBAs and hardware to improve reliability, manufacturability, and vehicle capabilities
- Own avionics hardware across the entire product lifecycle with extreme accountability for flight systems
- Perform root cause investigations on off-nominal unit behavior and implement risk mitigations
- Drive improvements to electrical schematics and mechanical drawings for production optimization
- Resolve production issues during assembly, test, and vehicle integration with engineering justification
- Design and execute hardware validation testing including benchtop and environmental test setups
What they're looking for
- Analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design
- Schematic capture and PCB layout tools (KiCad, Altium, Eagle)
- Electrical simulation software (LTspice, SIMetrix)
- Digital communications interfaces (SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, RS422)
- Test equipment operation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators)
- Design for excellence (DFX), root cause analysis, and derating
- Power supplies, filters, and microcontroller design
- Project management and technical documentation
