Process Engineer, Machinery & Automation

Hawthorne, CA$100k–$130kmidAdded today

About this role

SpaceX seeks a Process Engineer to design, specify, and commission machinery and automation systems for production of adhesives, paints, and thermal materials at their in-house manufacturing facility. You will own equipment lifecycles from procurement through vendor acceptance testing, factory installation, and production ramp, with responsibility for powder handling, industrial mixers, liquid dispensing, and custom tooling automation.

What you'll do

  • Design, specify, and procure powder handling, mixing, and liquid dispensing equipment for materials production
  • Own industrial equipment including hoppers, feeders, mixers, pumps, valves, and integrate with automation systems
  • Design custom tooling and fixtures for production cells, from CAD through fabrication and production release
  • Lead capital equipment projects end-to-end: vendor selection, design reviews, factory acceptance testing, and installation
  • Execute root cause analysis, design of experiments, and statistical process control to optimize mix/dispense performance
  • Partner with materials, quality, and production teams to ensure formulations meet flight-quality requirements at scale

What they're looking for

  • Powder handling systems and loss-in-weight feeders
  • Industrial mixers (high-shear, planetary, vacuum, reactor-style)
  • Liquid dispensing and meter-mix-dispense automation
  • 3D CAD design (SolidWorks, NX, Inventor) and GD&T
  • PLC/HMI programming and equipment automation
  • Design of experiments and statistical process control
  • Factory acceptance testing and vendor management
  • Chemical and hazardous materials handling
