Software Engineer – Payments

About this role

SteerBridge Strategies is hiring a Software Engineer to build and maintain backend services for SteerFi, a VA-integrated payments platform that issues Secure Cards to Veterans. The role combines hands-on coding with system design in a federal compliance environment (AWS GovCloud), requiring expertise in secure integrations, beneficiary file processing, and government payment system regulations.

What you'll do

• Design and develop backend services for VA beneficiary file ingestion and card issuance workflows
• Integrate third-party banking and payment processing partners within secure compliance boundaries
• Build and maintain systems operating in AWS GovCloud with federal compliance requirements
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and compliance teams on system design and auditability
• Implement and validate architectural patterns for service isolation and secure data handling
• Support production operations ensuring reliability and security of veteran payment systems
