Backend Engineer, Payments and Risk

About this role

Stripe seeks a backend engineer to design and maintain APIs and large-scale systems handling billions of payment transactions globally. You'll work across payments, checkout, and risk teams to build reliable infrastructure while mentoring peers and collaborating cross-functionally in a distributed environment.

What you'll do

• Design and build APIs and services handling billions of money movement requests at scale
• Debug and resolve critical production issues across multiple system layers
• Mentor engineers and contribute to team growth
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop features and improve engineering practices
• Maintain and optimize large-scale financial systems for reliability and efficiency

• Backend software engineering (2+ years professional experience)
• Strong coding ability in any programming language
