Varda Space Industries
Firmware Engineer II
About this role
Varda seeks a Firmware Engineer II to develop and maintain critical flight software for spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules operating in low Earth orbit. You'll own the complete software lifecycle—from requirements and design through testing and in-orbit support—building highly reliable systems that control mission-critical hardware in the space environment.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain firmware controlling spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations throughout the mission lifecycle
- Own complete software development cycle including design, testing, integration, and deployment
- Capture requirements and perform design trades for open-ended engineering problems
- Write structured, production-grade C++ firmware for embedded processors using bare metal, RTOS, or Linux
- Design and execute verification, validation, and testing strategies to ensure system reliability and performance
- Provide operational support for flight systems and troubleshoot issues in deployed spacecraft
What they're looking for
- C++ programming with strong language fundamentals
- Real-time embedded systems development and testing
- Safety-critical software engineering (aerospace preferred)
- Computer architecture and operating systems concepts
- Data structures and computer networking
- Python or Rust programming languages
- Software verification and validation methodologies
