Mission Operations Engineer
About this role
Vast seeks a Staff Mission Operations Engineer to develop training systems, ground operations procedures, and human-in-the-loop testing for next-generation commercial space stations. You'll lead mission operations teams, support spacecraft commissioning and on-orbit execution, and collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure safe and successful crewed missions.
What you'll do
- Design and deliver training programs and certification products for flight controllers and astronaut crews across multiple platforms
- Identify and implement improvements to mission operations, training systems, and ground software architecture in collaboration with engineering teams
- Translate customer requirements and payload needs into operational concepts and procedures with mission management
- Develop spacecraft operations training and crew procedures with expertise in flight rules, hazards, and ground operations
- Provide operational support during pre-flight testing, checkouts, and readiness campaigns to validate all systems
- Operate crewed and uncrewed missions, analyze telemetry, and lead flight control teams in real-time mission execution
