About this role
Verkada seeks an Embedded Engineer to design and optimize video streaming pipelines for over 1 million deployed cameras. You'll develop hardware-accelerated encoding, implement streaming protocols, and collaborate across firmware and backend teams to deliver low-latency, reliable video capture and delivery at scale.
What you'll do
- Design and optimize embedded video encoding and streaming pipelines for camera devices
- Implement and tune hardware-accelerated video codecs (H.264, H.265, AV1) for performance and power efficiency
- Build and extend multimedia frameworks like GStreamer and FFmpeg for real-time video capture and processing
- Integrate and optimize streaming protocols (RTSP, RTP, RTMP, HLS, DASH, WebRTC) for low-latency transport
- Profile and optimize video quality metrics including startup time, latency, and rebuffering
- Debug encoding pipelines and optimize device resource utilization (CPU, GPU, ISP)
