Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
About this role
SpaceXAI seeks a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to lead the buildout, testing, and handover of cooling and HVAC systems for advanced AI data centers across the United States. You'll commission critical mechanical infrastructure, coordinate with contractors and vendors, and ensure systems meet rigorous performance and safety standards before operations.
What you'll do
- Execute commissioning activities for chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, and hydronic systems in hyperscale data centers
- Perform functional testing, airflow/water flow verification, system balancing, and integrated validation
- Develop and review commissioning test procedures, checklists, and detailed documentation
- Troubleshoot mechanical, controls, and process issues during pre-commissioning and startup phases
- Coordinate with EPC contractors, OEM vendors, and design engineers on system energization and startup sequences
- Enforce safety compliance with LOTO, NFPA, OSHA, and company protocols; train operations and maintenance teams

- Commissioning test equipment (manometers, anemometers, ultrasonic flow meters, calibrators)
- Reading and interpreting P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and control schematics
- ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, ASME, and Uptime Institute standards
- Functional performance testing and system balancing
- Multi-disciplinary coordination in construction environments
- Industrial safety practices and protocols
- Data center cooling systems and hyperscale project experience
