Software Engineer - Platform Infrastructure
About this role
Join AfterQuery as a Platform Infrastructure Software Engineer to architect and build core systems powering data generation, evaluation, and agentic workflows for frontier AI model development. You'll own foundational infrastructure supporting high-throughput data pipelines and human-in-the-loop systems used by researchers and engineers across the company.
What you'll do
- Design and develop shared infrastructure for data generation platforms, human-in-the-loop systems, and evaluation pipelines
- Build systems handling large-scale datasets and high-throughput workloads with strong reliability guarantees
- Create reusable infrastructure and APIs enabling product engineers and researchers to build on core systems
- Implement observability, monitoring, and fault tolerance mechanisms for production workloads at scale
- Define long-term system architecture for data pipelines, compute infrastructure, task orchestration, and storage
- Establish standards and best practices for system design, deployment, reliability, and infrastructure operations

- Distributed systems and platform infrastructure design
- Python and/or JavaScript/Node.js backend development
- Cloud platform operations (GCP or AWS)
- Message queues and event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub)
- High-throughput data pipeline design and asynchronous processing
- System scalability, performance optimization, and reliability engineering
- Production system ownership and monitoring
- Internal developer platforms or shared infrastructure experience
