Materials Engineer
About this role
ALTEN Technology USA seeks an experienced Materials, Corrosion & Coating Engineer to evaluate and recommend coating systems and materials for industrial and transportation products. You'll benchmark coatings for cost and durability, conduct failure analysis, and define qualification testing to meet functional and environmental requirements.
What you'll do
- Benchmark lower-cost coatings and finishes against functional and durability requirements
- Evaluate corrosion protection, chemical/electrolyte resistance, manufacturability, and lifecycle risk
- Recommend materials and coating systems based on component exposure conditions
- Define specimen testing, acceptance criteria, and qualification evidence with customers or test providers
- Support root-cause analysis for coating, corrosion, adhesion, and material failures
- Perform supplier technical evaluation and qualification planning

- Coating and finish selection (powder coat, paint, e-coat, galvanizing, plating, conversion coatings)
- Corrosion mechanisms and chemical compatibility analysis
