About this role
Base seeks a Quantitative Developer Intern to join the Markets team in Austin, working on algorithmic trading and risk management for distributed battery resources in electricity markets. You'll design trading algorithms, validate models in simulation, and develop software to automate hedging strategies for their energy storage fleet.
What you'll do
- Design and implement sequential decision algorithms for trading energy storage resources in ERCOT markets
- Validate physics- and economics-based models in simulation environments
- Implement and deploy new algorithms to production trading infrastructure
- Quantify long-term financial risk under different operating strategies
- Identify and assess new hedging products and contract structures
- Develop software to automate trade valuation and execution

- Statistics and machine learning
- Python and SQL
- Software engineering best practices (TDD, CI/CD)
- Data-driven decision making
- Energy markets or wholesale power trading (preferred)
