Chief Engineer, Autonomous Systems
About this role
Metron seeks a Chief Systems Engineer to lead the technical vision for autonomous maritime systems, guiding multi-disciplinary teams through all development stages from concept to operational deployment. This role demands deep expertise across autonomy software, naval architecture, marine robotics, power systems, and systems engineering to deliver production-ready platforms meeting Navy standards.
What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end engineering lifecycle including concept development, requirements, design, integration, test, verification, and production transition
- Ensure systems mature from prototype to production with focus on manufacturability, quality, maintainability, and Navy certification compliance
- Direct multi-disciplinary teams spanning autonomy software, mechanical/electrical engineering, hydrodynamics, communications, and energy systems
- Drive systems engineering rigor including requirements management, MBSE practices, baseline management, and architecture trade studies
- Establish technical strategy and design verification practices aligned with demanding operational and safety requirements
- Guide naval architecture, power systems, navigation, sensing, and cyber-resilient architecture decisions
