About this role

Northwood seeks a Telecommunications Software Engineer to develop mission-critical software for satellite ground station networks. You'll design and maintain systems that ingest, process, and route telemetry and command data using CCSDS protocols, working across hardware, DSP, and FPGA teams to deliver production-ready communications infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain software for ingesting, processing, and routing telemetry, tracking, and command data
  • Implement and validate CCSDS protocols including space packets, transfer frames, and data encapsulation
  • Develop high-performance data pipelines connecting software-defined radios, ground stations, and customer endpoints
  • Build tooling for packet parsing, frame validation, buffering, recording, replay, monitoring, and debugging
  • Collaborate with DSP and FPGA engineers to define interfaces between physical-layer and higher-level software
  • Conduct integration and operational testing with simulated, hardware-in-the-loop, and live satellite data
