Mechanical Engineer - Fuel Recycling
About this role
Oklo seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead the development of radioactive waste treatment equipment, from concept through deployment. You'll define mechanical requirements, evaluate vendor designs, and ensure systems meet nuclear safety, operability, and regulatory standards while collaborating across engineering disciplines.
What you'll do
- Develop mechanical requirements, equipment specifications, acceptance criteria, and operating concepts for radioactive waste treatment systems
- Translate process requirements into practical equipment solutions for waste processing, packaging, storage, and material handling
- Evaluate vendor designs for functionality, maintainability, reliability, contamination control, remote operation, and lifecycle performance
- Develop and review equipment layouts, P&IDs, material handling flows, and mechanical interfaces
- Support procurement by identifying vendors, preparing technical specifications, and reviewing design deliverables
- Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and develop engineering documentation including design bases and technical reports
